Polyamide 11 - Nylon 11 - PA 11

Polyamide 11 (PA 11) or Nylon 11 is a polyamide bioplastic derived from vegetable oil. PA 11 is not biodegradable. Its properties are similar to PA12, although it has a lower environmental impact, consumes less non-renewable resources to be produced and has superior thermal resistance. It is weaker but more resilient than the most common types of Nylon (6 and 6/6). It is used in high-performance applications such as automotive fuel lines, pneumatic airbrake tubing, electrical anti-termite cable sheathing, oil and gas flexible pipes and control fluid umbilicals, sports shoes, electronic device components, and catheters.

Advantages of Polyamide 11 - Nylon 11 - PA 11

Low water absorption for a Nylon ( c. 2.5% at saturation ).  Reasonable UV resistance compared to other Nylons. Higher strength and better heat resistance than Nylon 12.

Disadvantages of Polyamide 11 - Nylon 11 - PA 11

More expensive than Nylon 6 or Nylon 6/6.  Low impact strength.

Applications of Polyamide 11 - Nylon 11 - PA 11

Used in high-performance applications such as automotive fuel lines, pneumatic airbrake tubing, electrical anti-termite cable sheathing, oil and gas flexible pipes and control fluid umbilicals, sports shoes, electronic device components, and catheters.
