Ampaglas SA (Pty)Limited
Ampaglas is the largest extruder of rigid plastic sheet in South Africa,
supplying the refrigeration, automotive, building, security, glazing, agricultural
and display industries with plastic sheet product running into thousands
of metric tons per year.
Ampaglas has access to specialised technology from overseas, where links
with material and machinery suppliers have been developed since the company's
formation in 1973. In addition, the company has developed its own technology,
based on practical experience, for blending, co-extruding and laminating
specially stabilized or modified materials to meet customer's specific requirements
of extruded plastic sheeting. Ampaglas is a recognised BEE company.
ABS Plastic Sheet
Acrylonitrile butadine styrene (ABS) is one of the most widely used plastics.
It's high impact resistance and suitability for heavy duty applications
has found it widely acceptable in the refrigeration and automotive industries
as well as for the printing and display markets. ABS is suitable for vacuum
forming.
PST Plastic Sheet
High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS) sheet has multiple applications in many markets,
it can be vacuum formed, silk screened and machined. It is suitable for
point of sales display units, indoor signage, showcases and packaging inserts.
HIPS sheet is also extensively used in the refrigeration and automotive
markets, where its superior qualities for thermoforming make it a versatile
choice. It can be manufactured with a high gloss finish and is approved
for food usage.
POLYPROPYLENE Plastic Sheet
Polypropylene (PP) is another widely used plastics worldwide. PP may be
used for a variety of applications where its inherent properties of impermeability
to gases and vapours, high molecular mass, good impact strenth, abrasion
and chemical resistance are major benefits - PP is often used in tank liners
for the chemical industry, ducting and engineering applications.
POLYETHYLENE Plastic Sheet
PE-HD is used extensively in engineering applications and for the automotive
industry, where its high chemical resistance and good electrical and dielectric
properties are a major benefit. PE-HD also has low water absorption, high
resistance to stress cracking and good machining properties. PE-HD is also
used for dam lining.
AMPAGARD® Plastic Sheet
Ampagard (Polycarbonate) is used for light diffusers, motor cycle windshields
and visors, back illuminated signs, aircraft interiors, viewing panels in
business and vending machines, riot visors and shields, toy mouldings and
medical packaging. Ampagard is the ideal material for security as it is
vandal and attack proof. Ampagard can be cut using band or circular saws(tungsten
carbide tipped blades).
AMPALITE® Plastic Sheet
Ampalite (Polyester Terephthalate Glycol) can be drilled, routed and sawed
more easily than most other plastics and can be guillotined up to a thickness
of 5mm. It is readily thermoformable does not need predrying. With it's
wide deep draw capabilities and thermoformable window, very intricate formings
can be contemplated. It can be cold and heat bent, welded, bonded and decorated
by a variety of methods, incuding both printing and painting.
CORUPLAS© Plastic Sheet
Coruplas (twin wall polypropylene) has applications in signage, packaging,
printing, advertising, point of sale, storage, transport and general industrial
areas. AS protection sheets, it is used in the building trade for protection
of floors, pillars etc, and in associated trades is used as anti-scuff sheets
betweem layers of brick, tile etc.
ACRILAN ©MI-UHI-HM17 Plastic Sheet
Acrilan MI is a medium impact acrylic sheet with outstanding optical properties,
excellent weather resistance and uniform tolerance control. It is a light
weight material which has excellent embossing and forming characteristics
allowing it to be sawn, drilled, beveled, routed, cemented and painted with
little difficulty. Acrilan UHI retains virtually all the advantages of Acrilan
MI with the added benefit of an impact strenght ten times greater.
Acrilan UHI is ideal for forming, moulding and glazing applications. Acrialn
is used for a wide range of products, eg: signs and advertising panels,
interior dividers and display glazing, panniers and wind deflectors for
motor cycles and boats, glazing, rooflights and domes for commercial, industrial
and domestic buildings, light bowls, telephone boots, prismatic light diffusers.

to quality standards in 1993. Our manufacturing plant is based in Elandsfontein
