Free-to-attend seminars at Propak Cape

Propak Cape takes place at the Cape Town International Conference Centre (CTICC) from 21-23 October and is the place where visitors can engage with over 200 exhibitors from the packaging, food processing, plastics, printing, labelling and wine manufactures industries.

For the first timePropak Cape, incorporating FoodPro, Pro-Plas Expo, Print Expo and Pro-Label Cape,is occupying two halls which is confirmation of its continued, and growing, popularity with exhibitors and visitors. Presented with new ideas, innovative products and the latest information around new technology, visitors will see a wide range of machinery, a showcase of new products and daily live demonstrations.

A free-to-attend seminar programme* will also be running during the course of the show which will provide insightful industry information vital to business. Topics will include legal implications of the draft food labeling regulations; improving recyclability; innovation and value creation for food and beverage packaging; diversification and new applications in print; developing and expanding the South African plastics industry; innovations for effective food processing; the way forward in pressure sensitive labels and shrink sleeves; and general interest topics such as the new B-BBEE Codes and the South Africa economic outlook.

“The free-to-attend seminars will run in the afternoons on the first two days of the show and then a full-day programme on Thursday, the last day of the show,” says Gary Corin, Managing Director of Specialised Exhibitions, Organisers of Propak Cape. “A broad range of topics have been included to cater for our industry sector visitors.”

Visitors to exhibitions have multiple shopping and learning objectives and research has confirmed that top reasons for visitors attending an exhibition include being able to see product demonstrations, to have hands-on interaction with products, to gain insights on industry trends and to obtain latest industry knowledge.Propak Cape 2014 will offer visitors just that: interactive product displays, daily live demonstrations, industry experts on stands and the additional attraction of the free-to-attend seminars and the industry conferences running alongside the show.

“It’s important to ensure that visitors have great take-away value when attending our shows,” says Corin. “Many of our Propak Cape exhibitors will be engaging with visitors through live demonstrations of machinery and equipment and through innovative interactive product displays. By including the free-to-attend seminars and the industry conferences in the content mix we will be providing further value for our visitors.”

The Institute of Packaging (South Africa) Western Cape Region will be hosting its Annual Business Breakfast Conference alongside Propak Cape at the CTICC on Tuesday 21 October. The theme of the conference is Luxury Packaging*. Topics will include conceptualising, developing and implementing a Christmas campaign at retail and the packaging of luxury goods. Also alongside Propak Cape, Plastics SA is hosting a Design for Recycling morning workshop* on Tuesday 21 October and a Zero Plastics to Landfill morning workshop* on Wednesday 22 October.

The Student Gold Pack Awards will also be a feature at Propak Cape this year. This is a reward programme for students in packaging, design and food sciences who show an insight into the challenges of packaging and the interaction of the multiplicity of disciplines involved.

“The student national award finalists entries will be on display at Propak Cape,” says Corin, adding that Specialised Exhibitions Montgomery is proud to be associated with this event again this year, as they have been over many years.
